Congratulations Seniors!

Well you've finally made it. Congratulations to the high school graduating classes of 2008. If you are still uncertain about what to do next, consider the earning power of earning a college degree. Statistics show that those with college degrees earn twice as much as those without. So regardless of which college or university you choose to attend, we would encourage you to take the steps to get enrolled this Summer or Fall!

Registering for Fall Semester

Fall registration is ongoing! If you are a new freshman student, you will register at the freshman orientation. If you are a new transfer student, you are not required to attend freshman orientation. If you cannot attend freshman orientation, please contact the advisement center at 435-752-7590. We look forward to having you on campus!

Also please note that although we do not have minimum admissions requirements, we do require that you provide us with high school transcripts and placement test scores (ACT or SAT). You can take a placement test on our campus if you haven't taken a placement test already.

Also note that you can still be considered for academic scholarships, but we're starting to run out of scholarship money so apply today!

So what's up with our deadlines?

We've received quite a few calls asking about our admissions deadline. Just because we are so nice, there are NO admissions deadlines. If you are applying for Fall 2008 (for example), you can apply now ... or you can apply on August 21st. Now having said that, you really should apply earlier rather than later. Why? Because you will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship when you apply, and we don't have an unlimited amount of Cash. So when it's gone, it's gone. Also, since Dixie State College is the best college to attend, why wait? Apply now!

Are there any deadlines? Yes. If you are applying for certain scholarships (i.e. leadership) there ARE deadlines. Please check out the financial aid website. Also, once you are enrolled and classes begin, there are deadlines for adding and dropping classes. If you have any questions, don't hesistate to call our admissions office at 652-7590.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

So when is the Scholarship Deadline?

Great question! If you want to be considered for an Academic Scholarship (based on your high school GPA and ACT scores) then you will still be considered after March 1. In fact, we will continue awarding academic scholarships until June 1st! (based on funding). But if you want to apply for a Leadership scholarship and be considered for the "college ambassador" program, you need to apply by February 15th. And for talent scholarships, you should apply by March 1st. Questions? Call Sue Perschon at 652-7578.

Complete Withdrawal = Dropping ALL your Classes

Just a reminder that the date for a complete withdrawal (this means dropping ALL your classes) is November 13th. Note that you will need to reapply for college if you withdraw from school. If you choose to withdraw, a withdrawal form is available in the registration office.

The last day to drop individual classes was on October 16th (regular semester) or October 26 (block courses). To appeal to drop individual courses, an exception to policy form must now be filled out. Forms available in registration office.

Finally, Halloween is around the corner!!!

Last day to Drop! Abducted by Aliens

The last day to drop or audit your courses is October 16th. If you miss this deadline, you will need to either keep going to class, or if there are extenuating circumstances, you can appeal to drop the class through the "Exception to Policy" committee. Appeal forms are available at the registrars office (2nd floor, student service center), and the committee meets regularly to review appeals. Please note that you need a dang good reason to miss the deadline (i.e. you have died, been critically injured, abducted by aliens, etc.).

What about the U of U connection??

There are many questions surrounding the possible affiliation with the University of Utah. While we are hopeful that a closer partnership will take place, we can't respond to any questions relating to the possible implications relating to tuition, additional degree choices, or any other changes. So stay tuned ....

Monday, September 24, 2007

Classes have been purged!

If you have not paid for your classes yet, chances are that you have been dropped from them. Please pay the cashiers office immediately and bring receipt over to the registrars office in order to be added back into your classes.

The fall block semester begins on October 1st! Start thinking about your halloween costume! The registration office will be dressed like pirates. Argh!

Last day to Add Classes

Please note that September 18th (Tuesday) is the last day to add regular semester classes. You can still add block classes until October 15th (Monday). Since this is a such a boring post, here is a picture of the director's car. He's going through a midlife crisis.

Need help with your classes?

Did you know that you can get help with your classes at the Tutoring Center? It is located on the 1st floor of the Browning Building (the floor below the testing center). Also, you may be able to get additional study materials at the library circulation desk. Or there are a lot of resources online (check out the first few pages of your text book for web resources).

On another note, please make sure that you are registered for the classes you are attending. Instructors have the prerogative of dropping students who didn't show up on the first class period. Go here to see your class schedule.

Go Rebels!

  • Sep 11 - Last day for a refund of tution and fees

Fall Semester is underway!

Classes began at Dixie on August 21st. It's still not too late to register, or you can sign up for "block" classes which begin on October 1st. If you are having a hard time getting the classes you need, be persistent. You can take an Add Card, and if the instructor signs it, the registrars office will register you for class. Also please be aware that the tutoring center is available for students who need extra help. Just go to the 1st floor of the Browning Building. Many faculty also have materials on reserve that you can check out at the library. Finally, check the Dixie home page regularly for activities on campus, and try to find a balance between your studies, work, and just having fun!

What to do when classes are full

As you may have already noticed, classes for Fall 2007 are filling up fast. If the classes you wanted to register for are already full, don't give up hope. You can get an Add Card at the Registrars Office (front counter) and take to the class you want to add. If the instructor signs it, then bring the card back to the Registrars Office (2nd floor, student service center) and you will be added to the class. You will need an Add Card to add ALL classes beginning on August 24th. Also note that you cannot add any classes after September 18th (except for block classes).

We do not have an Admissions Deadline

Some students believe it's too late to apply for college. Well not at Dixie. We do not have an admissions deadline. But we do require high school transcripts (if you are a freshman) and college transcripts (if you are a transfer student). So it still pays to apply just as soon as you can so that we get the appropriate documentation before school starts. In a nutshell, we need:

*Freshmen ... 1.) Fill out application, 2.) Pay $35, 3.) Send us your high school transcripts, 4.) Send us your ACT scores (or other placement test scores)

* Transfers ... If transferring more than 24 credits, then 1.) Fill out app, 2.) pay $35, 3.) send us official transcripts. If less than 24, follow freshmen steps (see above) and also send college transcripts.

* If Returning Student ... 1.) Fill out app, 2.) Pay $10

Piece of Cake!
